President Of Ferry Company Denies Hearing Of Any Health & Safety Issues
The president of BC Ferries has denied that he heard any health & safety issues that were apparently raised by the former chief safety officer. The safety concerns are said to have been made prior to the sinking of the Queen of the North last March.David Hahn states he never heard any of the concerns or issues said to have been raised by the former chief executive, David Bowland. However, Bowland stated that he raised concerns over the health and safety risks unless procedures and processes were improved.
Bowland added that the sinking of the Queen of the North could have been avoided had the right health and safety measures been taken on board. However, Hahn states that the company will deny all these claims made by Bowland with regards to issues having been raised and documents sent to warn of dangers.
Hahn stated: "I have no documents. He never came to see me expressing any of these grave concerns, nor any of the senior officers that report to me." Bowland in the meantime is seeking damages for issues such as wrongful dismissal, loss of reputation, and negligent misrepresentation.
