Lawsuit Filed Against Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is being sued by a man who claims that he was sexually assaulted by a prison guard when he was an inmate at the Lawrence County Jail. The lawsuit has been filed against the Sheriff’s Office, Tim Sexton, who is the sheriff, the Lawrence County Commission, and the county.James Middleton, from Lexington, Kentucky, claims that he was assaulted and his civil rights were violated when he was imprisoned between May and June 2004. He is claiming for “an amount to fully compensate … for damages, plus interest, costs, attorney’s fees and such other and further relief as the court deems just.”
The prison guard in question, Paul L. Roach, is not named in the lawsuit. However, he was fired as a corrections office at the facility after pleading guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition.
Roach was added to the sexual offenders register and ordered to serve four years probation. With regards to the lawsuit the sheriff stated: “The fact is, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and I as sheriff took immediate action. The individual is no longer employed at the jail. Criminal charges were filed and the individual was prosecuted. I don’t condone misconduct by any employee of the sheriff’s office.”
