School Board Sued By Student’s Family
The family of a former high school student are suing the school board for wrongful death. The 17-year-old baseball player died during practice and the family of the boy are suing the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Hillsborough County School Board.Matthew Miulli died in January 2005 during a running exercise, and the lawsuit has accused both the school board and the athletic association of negligence in the case.
The Hillsborough County medical examiner's office confirmed that Miulli was suffering from an existing heart condition for which he was receiving treatment. The lawsuit claims that medical permission should have therefore been obtained by the school board and athletic agency before Miulli was allowed to exercise.
As part of the lawsuit damages are being sought to cover medical and funeral costs as well as for pain and suffering. The lawsuit claims that the board and agency failed to ensure the safety of its students.
