Merced County Settled Lawsuit
Merced County has settled a lawsuit for over $300,000 after being sued by a resident who claims that he was beaten by two sheriff’s deputies that were on steroids. The 37-year-old man, Marcus Aue, claims that he was severely beaten in 2004 at the Merced County Fair after getting into a fight with the two men.The man claimed that he suffered a number of injuries, including balance problems, a speech impediment, brain damage, all of which he claims stemmed from the incident. He also claims that he lost a year of work as the result of the injuries he suffered because of the incident.
The settlement offer was finalized last week, and the county paid the man three hundred and twenty thousand dollars. Another man who sued in a similar case was only paid fifteen thousand dollars. It was not disclosed how much Aue had sued for in his lawsuit.
The under-sheriff stated that the settlement was made simply to stop the case being dragged through the courts, and he added that he thought the settlement awarded was far too high.
