Yoga’s Bad Boy Charged With Running Illegal Studio
The man that has become known as the bad boy of yoga, Bikram Choudhury, has been charged along with his landlord and company president by Los Angeles prosecutors. Choudhury, his landlord, American Sunroom Corp., and the company president Christian Prechter were each charged with ten counts, and these included operating without a license, failure to maintain emergency exits, and overcrowding of the studio.Each of the parties that have been charged could face heavy fines as well as up to six months in jail for each charge against them. However, an attorney for the yoga guru said that the matter is simply a publicity stunt. He said: “Who holds a press conference to announce fire code violations? It is just because of his name. If there is a violation we will take care of it.”
Choudhury’s studio was closed down in April after officials found that there were a number of violations of safety codes, according to reports. The guru has now told reporters that he has had enough of LA and plans to move on elsewhere.
The yoga master is known to operate in degrees of 105 degrees Fahrenheit, as he believes that this makes the effects of yoga more beneficial. He has become known as one of the most controversial yoga instructors in recent years.
