Former Employee Claims Unfair Dismissal Against The City
A former Myrtle Beach senior employee has filed a lawsuit against the city claiming that he was unfairly dismissed from his post as safety director. David King claims he was fired from his post because he made a complaint about sexual harassment against another employee of the city.Attorneys representing King state that the former director submitted a report in late 2005, which stated that a woman who had applied for a job with the city had indicated that she had previously been sexually assaulted by another city employee.
An investigation was then carried out into the man accused of the harassment, but the details in the report submitted by King were found to be unsubstantiated. The city recently released a statement indicating that King’s dismissal was not connected to the report.
According to the woman who made the complaint to King, the man against whom the complaint was made had "engaged in several lewd and egregious acts of sexual harassment" when they had been helping out with relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina.
