UK Police Officer Cleared Of Speeding
A police officer from the West Midlands police in the United Kingdom has caused uproar after being cleared of speeding charges by a judge after he was caught doing nearly 160mph on the roads in Birmingham, West Midlands.The police officer claimed that he was “familiarizing himself” with the unmarked patrol car, and this seemed to do the trick, as the judge cleared him of any charges. However, the public are outraged by the decision, and many people think that this will give the perfect excuse to those that want to get away with doing dangerous speeds on the roads of Britain.
Safety advocates have branded the acquittal as irresponsible, and state that it gives the message that speeding is not necessarily unsafe. The case of PC Mark Milton, aged 38, was heard at the magistrate’s court in Ludlow. The officer, who comes from Telford in Shropshire, told the courts that he was an advanced driver who was fully trained and was simply familiarizing himself with the unmarked vehicle.
The public was amazed when the judge not only cleared the officer of all speeding charges, but also described him as the ‘crème de la crème’ of police officers. The excessive speed that the officer was doing during the incident, which actually took place in 2003, was caught on the patrol car’s video camera.
