Trial Begins In Case Of Schoolgirl That Choked
A trial has recently started in the case of a twelve-year-old girl that choked to death at school when she crammed her mouth with marshmallows. The lawsuit claims that the death of the girl, Catherine Fish, occurred because of lack of supervision by the teacher, and the family of the girl are seeking unspecified damages for the death.A lawyer representing the Glenview School District states that the children were never out of the teacher’s sight. However, the family’s attorney claims that the teacher had left the room to talk to a janitor when the incident occurred. Apparently, Catherine and some of her friends started playing a game that entailed cramming marshmallows into the mouth and trying to say the words ‘chubby bunny’ three times. The game was part of the ‘Care Fair’ which was to raise money for charity.
The family lawyer stated, "You have to make sure that when children are doing something that might be dangerous you are there to protect them. Effective supervision timely acted upon would have saved Casey. Casey's parents would be sitting at her high school graduation next week."
After cramming four marshmallows into her mouth, Casey choked and collapsed. She later died in a hospital. The girl’s mother had been called and told that Catherine had fainted. However, when she turned up at the school, there was white liquid coming from her mouth and nose, and her head was being held up by a health care provider from the school.
