Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Health Authority
Three groups of women have filed a class action lawsuit against the Eastern Regional Integrated Health Authority for the misdiagnosis of cancer as well as failure to maintain quality control in relation to the testing of breast tissue being tested for cancers.There are three groups of women involved in the lawsuit. Some of the women claim to have been put under undue mental anguish after discovering that their breast tissue had to be retested in order to determine the presence of cancer. Some say that they were misdiagnosed and treated unnecessarily for cancer. Some claim that the results were changed and resulted in them receiving unnecessary chemotherapy.
One woman involved in the lawsuit stated that she had to undergo a double mastectomy only to discover that it had all been unnecessary. She added that she was suing not for the money but to try and prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
She stated: “There is nothing that will ever replace what I have lost. But if it’s going to help somebody else, some other woman out there, I say to them make sure, make sure you get the second opinion.”
