Children’s Rights Group To Sue State Of Michigan
A children’s rights group is set to sue the state of Michigan over the treatment of foster children in the state. Advocacy group Children’s Rights aims to make officials working for the state make more of an effort to find permanent homes for foster children. Previous lawsuits filed by the group have resulted in child protection reforms in 13 states already.The executive director of the group, Marcia Robinson Lowry, states that a review has been carried out into the child welfare system in operation within the state, and that various serious issues have been highlighted as a result of that eight month review.
Lowry went on to state that not only are foster children within the state being forced to continually move from one home to another, but that they are also denied basic physical and mental health care.
She also added: “We’re going to be asking for the end of violations of children’s rights. We’re going to ask that the state, in fact, stop violating children’s rights and both develop and put in place a plan under which children are protected and receive the services to which they are entitled and the protection to which they are entitled.”
