Parents Of Drunk-Driving Accident Victim Sue Hosts Of Party
The parents of a 14-year-old girl that was killed as the result of a drunk-driving incident have sued the hosts of the party at which the driver became intoxicated. The driver, Stephen Bromstrup, was only 16 years of age when he caused the fatal accident that killed 14-year-old Sarah Stone, along with another young girl.Bromstrup had been to a party and had smuggled in some alcohol. He then got into a Pontiac Firebird along with a friend and drove through the neighborhood. However, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a Cadillac, in which the two fatally injured girls were travelling.
Bromstrup, who pled guilty, was sentenced to seven years in prison for vehicular homicide. The couple being sued are Barbara and John O’Brien, who were the hosts of the party at which Bromstrup drank the alcohol. The lawsuit claims that the couple did not "take reasonable steps to prevent the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by a minor."
