Settlement In Case Of Schoolgirl That Choked To Death
The family of a schoolgirl that choked on marshmallows as part of a school game and subsequently died has received a $2 million payout. The game involved stuffing marshmallows into your mouth and saying the words ‘chubby bunny’. However, tragically, the game turned sour when Catherine Fish, just 12 years old, choked and later died.After cramming four marshmallows into her mouth, Casey choked and collapsed. She later died in hospital. The girl’s mother had been called and told that Catherine had fainted. However, when she arrived at the school, there was white liquid coming from her mouth and nose, and her head was being held up by a health care provider from the school.
The dead girl’s father stated: "We are happy this is settled. The entire purpose of this suit has been to inform and warn parents of the dangers of this game and all food games. We don't want any other child to suffer what our child did." The girl’s mother added: "I just don't want anyone to go through my pain."
District 34 Superintendent Gerald Hill stated: "Under the circumstances, the settlement is the best resolution. The tragic accident was just devastating to a lot of people. My heart goes out to the Fishes."
