Sexual Assault Witnesses Want To Remain Anonymous
In the headline-grabbing sexual assault lawsuit against world-famous celebrity Bill Cosby, nine witnesses have pleaded with the courts to allow them to remain anonymous when taking the stand. The celebrity’s lawyers have expressed concerns about this course of action as they say it could be open to abuse. The judge, U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno, has yet to reach a decision.One of the lawyers defending one of the female witnesses stated: "I urge the court not to say to these women that the price of coming forward is to be immediately swept into the publicity maelstrom." The lawyers representing the group of women have assured Cosby’s lawyers that the women will not speak to the press under the protection of anonymity, which is one of the things that the entertainer’s counsel had been worried about.
The lawsuit has been filed by a former employee of Temple University, who claims that she was drugged and then fondled by Cosby. The group of women testifying claim to have had the same experience. The incident with the former Temple University employees is said to have taken place around a year ago at Cosby’s mansion, where she was given some blue pills.
Cosby has denied the charges, stating that the pills he gave were over the counter medication for stress and sleeping problems, about which the woman had been complaining.
