Kazaa Makers To Settle Piracy Lawsuits
The makers of Kazaa Software have reached an agreement with regards to settlement of global piracy lawsuits. The company has agreed to pay over one hundred and fifteen million dollars in settlements to a number of music and movie companies, after being placed among the main players in the area of free downloads of movies and music.The company has also stated that it will be looking at its software in order to block those that try to download copyrighted material in the form of music and movies. In addition to this it plans to offer licensed entertainment for which a charge will be made.
This settlement brings the long running dispute over piracy to a close. Millions of dollars have already been spent by the entertainment industry on this case. The makers of Kazaa have stated that they will do all they can to help eliminate the problem of online piracy.
Eric Garland, chief executive at BigChampagne Online Media Measurement, stated: "Kazaa has been yesterday's file-sharing technology for some time now. We're resolving court battles months or even years after the cultural relevance of these software applications has waned."
