USA Today Publisher Sued By Taser International
The publisher of USA Today, Gannett Co, is being sued by stun gun manufacturer Taser International Inc. The lawsuit has been filed because Taser states that the company ran an article that made readers question the safety of its products. The suit has been filed in Arizona Superior Court, and it accuses Gannett of libel.Gannett made no comment because officials had not yet seen details of the lawsuit. The article in question was run early in June of this year, and Taser claims that it exaggerated the electrical output of one of its stun guns, misleading readers and making them question the product’s safety.
Taser also complains that the article went on to compare the output of the stun gun in question with deadly items and comparisons such as an electric chair, an electric train track, and a lightning storm. Taser accuse the publishing company of sensationalizing the article and putting its products in a bad light.
Taser also states that the output of the stun gun is one thousand times less than an electric chair, but that the report stated that the output was one hundred times greater than an electric chair.
