No Anonymity For Women In Cosby Trial
The women that have agreed to testify at the sexual assault trial against Bill Cosby have been refused anonymity by the judge. U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno stated "allegations of harm by each of the Jane Doe witnesses are unsubstantiated broad allegations" and that there was no justification for their identities to be kept a secret.The women had asked to remain anonymous for a number of reasons from wanting to avoid press interest to wanting to protect family members or avoid people they know finding out their business. There are nine women testifying altogether. The judge has stated that in normal circumstances such personal details would not be made public anyway.
The attorney of one of the women due to testify stated: "It's up to Mr. Cosby and his lawyers to decide what they want to do." The lawyer expressed his disappointment at the judge’s decision not to grant anonymity, but stated that there may be no reason for the women’s names to be disclosed anyway.
