Employees Sue Home Depot
A Home Depot in Flushing has been sued by two ex-employees for a range of allegations, stating that the managers at the company would force them to delete hours from their time sheets and would fail to pay them for extra hours worked. The suit filed by the two former employees seeks more than $5 million in damages.Company officials did make a statement earlier stating that it is “committed to supporting all employment laws and practices” and adding, “While we are aware of the complaint ... we have not had the opportunity to review the allegations in it.”
The complaint was filed on Wednesday in the Brooklyn US District Court, and in it allegations are made that many employees were cheated out of wages by management. The two former employees are seeking a class action with this case.
One lawyer stated that many big companies often work in this way, but that does not make it right. He stated: "It's strictly illegal, and many people who work in these jobs are intimidated, afraid to raise the issue because they depend on the jobs, and they feel fairly powerless."
