County Sued By Former EMS Worker
A former EMS worker from North Carolina is suing the county after claiming that because of her disability she was fired from her position. The woman worked for the Alamance County Emergency Medical Services department, and claims that she was dismissed in February because she suffers from an autoimmune disorder.Ethiel Estes further claims that she was then replaced by someone that had no disability and also had far less experience that her. She stated that she never asked for any significant changes to her role as a result of her disability, but stated that she did have to receive periodic treatment for her disability.
Her complaint stated that "she was perceived to require excessive accommodation and was perceived to be a liability." Estes added that as a result of having to take time off due to her illness and disability she was reprimanded and disciplined.
Estes is asking for $10,000 in damages for her treatment and dismissal from her position, and she is also asking that she be reinstated on her normal salary and benefits along with interest.
