Attorneys Plead Guilty To Money Related Charged
Two attorneys have pled guilty to various charges in connection with accepting money said to come from the proceeds of drugs sales from a major drug ring. The attorneys, Mr. Vandeveen and Mr. White faced various charges. Mr. White had accepted a bag of money from an alleged drug kingpin, and then had passed on some of the cash to his friend, another attorney.Mr. White, aged 49, pled guilty to money-laundering, and he stated that he was aware that the money he accepted came from drugs. Vandeveen, aged 45, who had accepted $20,000 from White out of the cash, pled guilty to failure to file a transaction report with the Inland Revenue Service.
Reports allege that White initially received $100,000 from the alleged kingpin. He then hid the cash rather than putting it in the bank, where it should have gone in order to be recorded for IRS purposes. US District Attorney, Doug Whalley, stated: "If a guy comes to you and asks you to defend him in a drug case and gives you $100,000 in a backpack, common sense says you should explore the source of the money."
White’s attorney stated: "He absolutely made a mistake and that's why he pleaded guilty today." Vandeveen’s attorney also said: "He acknowledges he made a mistake and it's his intent to do everything in his power to make things right from this point forward."
