Former Bengals Player Sues City
A former player with the Bengals is suing the city of Cincinnati for $50 million after he was subdued through the use of a stun gun during an arrest earlier this year. The incident took place in July, and Matthias Askew, the former Bengals defensive tackle, filed the lawsuit late last week.Askew alleges that the officers that carried out the arrest and used the stun gun to subdue him used excessive force. The lawsuit further alleges that the former player was falsely arrested and then maliciously prosecuted.
The lawsuit is asking that the policy employed by the city when it comes to use of force be declared as unconstitutional. The lawyer that filed the lawsuit on behalf of Askew is also looking to make this part of a class action suit for others who have been subdued in this way through the use of taser guns.
Askew was arrested over a dispute after his car was found illegally parked. Officers state that they tried to cuff him but he broke away before he was stunned. He has now been acquitted.
