Lawsuit For Royalties Filed By Songwriter
A songwriter has filed a lawsuit for breach of contract in a bid to receive royalties. Fifty-three year-old William Beck filed the lawsuit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. He is seeking a minimum of $100,000, having filed the lawsuit against a Dayton music publishing company, Troutman Enterprises Inc.Beck filed his original lawsuit through his attorneys in 2005. However, the case was dismissed because the necessary supporting evidence for the case could not be collected in time. The lawsuit filed this week was a refilling of the original one.
The lawsuit claims that Beck borrowed money from the publishing company when he hit hard times, and that the publisher agreed to keep royalties for nearly 200 songs for which Beck had written some lyrics or music. This was to continue until the money borrowed had been paid off.
However, the lawsuit also alleges that the publishing company continued to withhold royalties long after the money that Beck had borrowed had been paid back.
