Woman Sued For Counterfeit Boat Tickets
A woman from Kelleys Island is being sued by the Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line after she was convicted of making and using counterfeit boat tickets.The woman was convicted of using the fake tickets two years ago, and the lawsuit that the ferry company has filed against 57-year-old Elizabeth Hermes is asking for over $50 thousand in damages.
The lawsuit was filed last month in Erie County, and as well as suing Hermes also alleges that there were six other people, who currently remain unnamed, that helped her to produce the counterfeit tickets. The lawsuit alleges that Hermes acted fraudulently and that her action hurt the company’s business.
Hermes was found guilty of the charges in December and was sentenced to community service, as well as a 30 day suspended prison term. She responded to the lawsuit by stating: “We thought this was all behind us. I just want this to go away. This is hurting my family.”
