Eleven Lawsuits Filed Against Hospital
Eleven lawsuits have been filed against a hospital, all of them stating that the hospital had unhygienic and unsanitary conditions that caused serious infection. The lawsuits have all been filed in Jefferson Circuit Court, and they claim that due to the conditions at the hospital patients contracted infections known as Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus or Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus. In one suit, it is claimed that a patient contracted both infections.One of the lawsuits, that of the late James Arthur Prince, has been filed by the man’s family and claims wrongful death after the man allegedly contracted MRSA and died. It is reported that the infections involved are not always dangerous but can be serious in those with immune system problems and weaknesses.
A spokesperson from the hospital has claimed that the lawsuits have no merit, and that the hospital is keen to go to court in order to prove that there is no merit behind the cases. The spokesperson said that it was impossible for the hospital to defend itself due to patient confidentiality: “It's disappointing when allegations come out like this that you can't defend yourself in the newspaper.”
