Diddy Settles Lawsuit With UK Music Producer
World famous rapper Diddy, known previously as Puff Daddy, and then as P. Diddy, has settled a lawsuit filed by a UK music producer over the use of the name. The music producer filed that lawsuit as he had been using the name Diddy for over ten years. The rap star, however, only decided to start using that name last year, having previously changed it from Puff Daddy to P. Diddy.The rapper’s real name is Sean Combs, and he has settled with the UK music producer for the sum of $200,000 in the out-of-court settlement. Combs will not be able to assume the name ‘Diddy’ in the US as part of the settlement. The $200,000 paid out covers the plaintiff’s court costs as well as damages of eighteen thousand dollars.
Richard Diddy Dearlove, the UK music producer, stated: "I suffered from a head injury in 2001, when Sean Combs changed his name to P. Diddy. I lost my sight for three years and couldn't work. I was all ready to go last year, then, in August, he changed his name to Diddy. I was gutted. I started getting emails from Puerto Rican girls asking if they could be in my video, and people were asking me to look at their clothing line."
