Lawsuit Filed Over Increase In Property Tax Valuation
Western Refining has filed a lawsuit against the El Paso Central Appraisal District, after being slapped with an increase of one hundred percent on the East Side refinery’s property tax valuation for 2006. The lawsuit was filed in District Court on Friday.A spokesperson for Western stated: "It's a pretty crazy increase." The courts are being asked to reduce the valuation on the company’s main property. The spokesperson also stated that other refineries in other parts of the state seemed to have much lower appraised valuations.
Approval has also been given to the filing of a lawsuit against Western Refining by the district's chief appraiser and board of directors. This is because the district’s Appraisal Review Board is said to have reduced the proposed refinery valuation "below the market value of the property."
The spokesperson for Western added that the lawsuit is only being filed in connection to the valuation for their main refinery property, and no in relation to other properties belonging to the company.
