Prosecutor Sued Ex-Public Defender
A former public defender is being sued by a lawyer over claims of defamation in a book. The lawyer claims that the ex-defender described her in his book as a ‘sleazy’ and ‘unethical’ prosecutor, and accused her of manipulating the criminal justice system in order to convict innocent parties.The lawsuit has been filed against former defender David Feige by lawyer Sara Schall. She also claims that in his book he describes her as ‘dowdy’ and ‘mean and twitchy’. The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan’s State Supreme Court late last week.
The lawsuit goes on to state that Schall “was a prosecutor of the highest dedication and integrity” and that she always “took great care with her personal appearance and grooming.” The court papers also state: “As a result of these knowingly false accusations, the defendants have injured plaintiff Schall's personal and professional reputation and are liable for compensatory and punitive damages."
However, Feige responded by stating: “Everything in the book is true. This is a pathetic vanity suit. She is complaining about my having called her dowdy, and when last I looked that was opinion.”
