State Fair Of Texas Files Lawsuit
A document disposal company is being sued by the State Fair of Texas over allegations that the disposal company helped to sell coupons for food and rides on the black market when they should have been shredding them, according to officials from the State Fair. Officials state that the scam ended up costing them around $1.5 million.According to the lawsuit, the disposal firm, Iron Mountain Inc, was hired in 2004 and was asked to destroy coupons that had been used as well as extra ones. However, the lawsuit goes on to claim that employees of the disposal firm did not destroy all of the coupons, and in fact sold around fifty percent of the ones that were supposed to be destroyed at discounted prices on the black market. Robert Smith, the fair's general counsel, stated: "We've done extensive research over the last 12 months to determine the distribution network. It was a network within the corridor of businesses."
A spokesperson for the disposal company also commented on the case, and said that an internal inquiry was being carried out at the company, and that full cooperation had been given to police over the matter. A spokesperson for the company stated: "It is our understanding that the Dallas Police Department concluded that there was no evidence against Iron Mountain or its personnel of any wrongdoing."
