Stockbroker Pleads Guilty To Illegal Immigration Scheme
A stockbroker has pleaded guilty to being involved in a scheme to obtain US visas for Chinese immigrants. The stockbroker stated that he conspired with an immigration attorney also involved in the scheme in order to obtain the visas for the illegal immigrants. His brokerage firm was then used to launder money made from the illegal scheme.The stockbroker, Horacio Golfarini, aged forty-three, admitted to laundering over a quarter of a million dollars in profits from the scheme, which was put through his brokerage firm. He now faces up to twenty years in prison as well as facing fines of up to half a million dollars.
The immigration attorney that is said to have been involved in the scheme, Kenneth Rothey, is currently thought to be in China. There were other people that were also said to have been involved, one of whom is due to be sentenced later this year.
Part of the indictment alleges that as part of the scheme around eight US businesses were paid to produce phoney information that tied them to Chinese companies as subsidiaries, enabling the illegal immigrants to then pass as being workers or seeking work at the companies.
