Nursing Assistant Sues Former Employer Over Alleged Racism
An ex-nursing assistant has filed a lawsuit against his former employer, claiming that evidence relating to assault charges against him were ignored because of racial bias. The lawsuit was filed against the Country Meadows Nursing Home by the ex-nursing assistant, John Sterling Collins.Collins had been accused of the assault of a 92-year-old man at the nursing home, but in the lawsuit, which was filed late September, he alleges that the nursing home had ‘objective medical evidence’ that proved that he had not assaulted the man, Edwin Lloyd. However, he goes on to claim that this evidence was ignored because he is black.
Although not named in the lawsuit, two of Collins’ former colleagues have also been accused of conspiring with the 92-year-old man, as well as with the home, in a bid to get him fired from his job. However, a spokesperson for the home stated that there is no basis to Collins’ claims.
Crystal Hull, the spokesperson for the Bethlehem Township nursing home, stated: "Country Meadows denies any allegations by Mr. Collins of employment discrimination and we intend to defend ourselves vigorously."
