Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Settled By Envelope Making Company
A lawsuit filed by three supervisors over their pay has been settled by a Fayette County company. The lawsuit claimed that the three supervisors were underpaid because they were black. The envelope making company, Williamhouse, has now agreed to reach a settlement with the plaintiffs in order to end the lawsuit.The federal lawsuit was filed in 2004 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of the three plaintiffs. The company has now agreed to pay out $78,000 to the three plaintiffs, who are Michael Wormack, of Jeannette, and Donald H. French and Derek French, of Leisenring, Fayette County.
The lawsuit had alleged that the three supervisors were paid less than white employees in the same positions, and in some cases less that some white employees with less responsibility. The lawsuit went on to state that figures showed that fourteen white employees had salaries of $32,500 to $58,101, whereas the three black employees has salaries of $32,000 to $46,592.
An attorney for the plaintiffs stated: "The matter was resolved, and everybody is satisfied." In addition to lawyer’s fees, the settlement will pay out twenty seven thousand dollars to Wormack and twelve thousand dollars each to the other two plaintiffs.
