Black & Decker Sues Over Patent Infringement
The Black & Decker Corporation is suing two companies alleging patent infringement in relation to its laser level tools. The companies being sued by the corporation are Newell Rubbermaid Inc. and The Stanley Works. The tool making giant alleges that these two companies obtained and violated patents for popular tools used in DIY tasks.The company filed its lawsuit in Delaware earlier in the week. The suit claims that five tools have been made by Newell Rubbermaid that violate patent, and a further eight products by Stanley.
The multi-billion dollar tool making company has not commented on the case because it is an ongoing legal matter. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial. A Stanley spokesperson simply commented: "We obviously cannot comment until we've been served with the lawsuit."
Likewise, Newell Rubbermaid officials were also reluctant to make any comment until the lawsuits had been served, with a spokesperson simply stating: "At this time we decline to comment as we will respond through the legal process in due course."
