Illinois Judge Refuses To Suspend Divorce Proceedings
A McHenry County judge has made a decision to refuse the suspension of divorce proceedings in a case where a husband has been charged with trying to kill his wife. The judge has made his decision in order to close the gap between a victim’s privacy and a defendant’s rights. The judge has, however, placed restrictions on the level of pre-trial questioning the defense lawyer can ask.County prosecutors had been pushing for a suspension on the divorce proceedings so that Billy Cox could be taken to court on the murder charges. It is alleged that the defendant, a scientist and businessman, bear his wife unconscious and then locked her in a garage with two running cars. A family member contacted police to check on the woman, and this is when she was discovered.
Following the judge’s decision, the divorce proceedings will continue as planned. The judge stated that his decision was the fairest way to ensure that the divorce proceedings were dealt with fairly.
Billy Cox is currently free on a $250,000 bond, and he awaits the trial date for the attempted murder charges.
