Man Sentenced To Prison For Environmental Fraud
A man has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for environmental fraud, after he falsified certificates, faked environmental reports, and ignored laboratory test results. Michael Klusaritz had a variety of clients including the Great Valley Council of the Girl Scouts and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital. Klusaritz was supposed to ensure that the fuel storage tanks of his clients were properly and safely removed without causing harm to the environment, but he failed to do this, instead opting to commit fraud and forgery.Thirty-eight victims in total were defrauded by Klusaritz, and in addition to the prison sentence he has been given, a judge has ordered him to pay back clients, which will come to $112,000. And this was not the first time that Klusaritz had been charged with this type of offense – he had already been charged for the same kind of offense once before.
The judge went as far as to impose a sentence that was three months longer than that requested by the prosecution. The defense attorney had asked for leniency because Klusaritz was going through emotional problems. The defense attorney stated: "I am gigantically sad because Michael Klusaritz is not an evil person. He's not a bad guy."
The defense attorney claimed that his client did what he did not for financial gain but because he had more work than he could handle and was not of the disposition to tell supervisors that he was unable to cope with the workload.
