Medical Examiner Being Sued By Taser
The manufacturer of the often controversial stun gun, Taser, is suing the Summit County Medical Examiner after the weapon that the company manufactures was connected to two deaths in the area. The company is questioning the ruling made by the examiner, which then went on to link the stun gun to the two deaths.The lawsuit against the medical examiner was filed late last week. The stun gun manufactured by Taser has been at the center of much controversy in relation to its safety and effectiveness. Many officers now refuse to carry the weapon, which was once thought to be an effective alternative to a firearm.
As part of the lawsuit the Summit County Medical Examiner, Lisa Kohler, is accused of lacking the expertise to make the ruling that linked the products to the deaths of two locals, Dennis Hyde, 30, and Richard Holcomb, 18, who died in 2005.
Taser officials state in the lawsuit that the stun gun “has been shown to be among the least injurious force options for both the officer using force and the resistant subject”.
