Myspace Being Sued By Universal
MySpace.com is being sued by music giant Universal, following claims that it allows its members to illegally upload music and videos that are copyrighted. The lawsuit was filed in a District Court in California late last week, and accuses MySpace of copyright infringement.The Universal Music Group issued a statement that read: "Businesses that seek to trade off on our content, and the hard work of our artists and songwriters, shouldn't be free to do so without permission and without fairly compensating the content creators."
In its statement of claim Universal went on to state: "The foundation of MySpace is its so-called 'user-generated content. However, much of that content is not 'user-generated' at all. Rather, it is the 'user-stolen' intellectual property of others, and MySpace is a willing partner in that theft."
However, officials from mySpace.com, which is owned by News Corp, said that the lawsuit and the accusations from the Universal Music Group were ‘meritless’.
