Bank Robber Claims To Commit Crime Because He Misses Mother
A sixty-three year old bank robber who led police on a high speed chase in May following a robbery claims that his crime was the result of missing his mother. Terrance Lee Mackey stated that he committed the crime because legal officials refused to jail him close to his mother’s home in Florida back in 1982 after he violated parole. Mackey was sentenced earlier this week and insisted that his crime was the result of the federal justice system."I wouldn't be standing here today if I'd been sent to Florida like I asked," Mackey said after his latest sentencing. The judge that sentenced Mackey stated that he didn’t believe that the plaintiff’s old age would make a difference to his ability or intention to commit future crime, and Mackey was sentenced to nearly thirty years in prison as a result. Mackey, along with an accomplice, was arrested after crashing into the River Levee in their Corvette as they fled from the law.
Mackey also tried to justify the fact that he leaned out of the window during the chase and fired two hand guns at the police officers that were chasing him. He claims he did this in self defense, stating: “The police were shooting at me.” His twenty-six year old accomplice has yet to be sentenced.
