HP Pays Millions Over Spying Scandal
Computer and printer giant, Hewlett Packard, has been forced to shell out fourteen and a half million dollars to settle a lawsuit that was filed against the company by the California Attorney General’s Office. This was a civil lawsuit, and there are still actions that are due to be taken against individuals from the company.According to the lawsuit, HP used fraudulent activity in order to try and find out the telephone number of its employees, board members, and journalists, in a bid to try and find out who was leaking information with regards to company information to newspapers.
According to the Attorney General, credit was due to the company for providing full co-operation with the investigation. He said: “I think they deserve some credit for not stonewalling. Fortunately HP is not Enron.”
The Chief Executive of Hewlett Packard said that the company was “…pleased to settle this matter. HP is committed to ensuring it regains its standing as a global leader in corporate ethics and responsibility.”
