New York Jets Can File Lawsuit
The New York Jets are being permitted to continue with an antitrust lawsuit, which claims that the Madison Square Garden’s owner tried to sabotage the chances of the city in relation to hosting the Olympics. A judge decided that the Jets could press ahead with the lawsuit, stating that the owner’s unsolicited bid to buy West Side rail yards could be looked into in court.It is claimed that Cablevision Systems Corp. put in a bid to stop the team from building a Sports and Convention Center on the site. The judge wrote that the Jets had: "adequately alleged that Cablevision's bid constituted a sham" in order to stop this from happening.
The lawsuit alleges that although the attempted bid made by the company violated antitrust laws, although the suit does not allege that the company managed to stop the plans for the stadium construction with its bid. However, Cablevision has insisted that its bid was a legitimate one to build on the site.
A spokesman for Madison Square Garden stated: "The West Side Stadium matter was resolved in June. The people of New York have moved on and it is time for the Jets and their lawyers to move on, too."
