Songwriter’s Children File Lawsuit Against Aunt
The children of a songwriter have filed a lawsuit against their aunt – the sister of their father – following his death, and have asked that she be removed as the executor of his estate. The late Darrell ‘Wayne’ Perry wrote a number of songs and his work was recorded by artists such as Tim McGraw and the Backstreet Boys.Perry died in 2005, and his children state that they promised him that they would help to keep his music alive. They are now fighting his sister for control of his estate, and have asked a probate judge from Butler County to remove their aunt as executor of the estate.
The aunt, an evangelist, has control of the estate and of a trust he wanted to set up for his children. According to the children of the late songwriter, however, the estate – which they had valued at around three quarters of a million dollars – was almost gone.
The songwriter’s daughter said of her aunt, Darlene Bishop: "I love my aunt Darlene and I pray for her every day. She has lost her bearings."
