Lawsuit Filed To Halt Execution By Lethal Injection
A lawsuit has been filed to halt the execution of an inmate by lethal injection after the inmate complained that the lethal injection would cause him unnecessary suffering. The New Albany man, 59 year-old Norman Timberlake, is scheduled to be executed on January 19th.Attorneys acting on behalf of the man have now filed a lawsuit to try and get the execution halted. The man was convicted for the shooting and death of a State Police Master Trooper in 1993. The incident occurred at a traffic stop, and the trooper, Michael Greene, was killed as the result of the shooting.
No response has yet been received with relation to the lawsuit by the state attorney general’s office. However, a spokesperson has stated that consultations are taking place with the Department of Corrections, and a response will be issued once these consultations have taken place.
Another lawsuit was also filed by the same prisoner. In the second lawsuit, Timberlake asks the courts to consider a plea of insanity, and therefore to render him ineligible for execution for his alleged crime.
