Poverty Lawyers To File Legal Papers Over Immigrants
Poverty lawyers have been preparing to file legal papers in court claiming the unfair treatment of battered immigrant women and children, who through faulty training and systems, are receiving no food stamps or other forms of aid. The lawyers state that officials have consistently failed to correct the problems, and that taking legal action seems a final resort to try and get something done about the issues.The lawyers want the government to help these troubled immigrants, enabling them to remain safe and to feed and clothe their children until they are able to support themselves. However, with the way the system runs at the moment, the lawyers state that this is simply not happening, and that the women and children and being left to fend for themselves despite not having the resources or capabilities to do so.
One of the lawyers stated: ''We have clients who have chosen to return to the abuser rather than not have food for their children. ''People try to escape, but what's worse for the children, to see their mom get abused, or to be in the shelter and go hungry?''
However, a city spokesman tried to defend the system, stating that officials were doing all they could to help resolve the issues. ''We have worked every day, including with groups like Legal Aid, to make our delivery of service even better,'' he said. ''They've chosen to litigate this matter, so let them have their day in court.''
