When it comes to the relief of pain, there are various methods and treatment available. Apart from the obvious drug therapies and medication that are available for the treatment and relief, there are also other types of therapy, and one of these is known as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy.
This is a non-addictive and non-invasive type of therapy, and there are no reported side effects associated with this form of pain relief. Both acute and chronic pain can be controlled and managed through the use of this procedure, which uses electrical currents to stimulate certain nerves.
According to experts, this form of therapy is able to stimulate the body’s production of natural painkillers, known as endorphins. When this method of treatment is used, electrode patches are attached to the relevant area via the skin, and the electrical currents can then be targeted to the necessary area in order to promote pain relief.
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy can be used by a number of patients in a range of situations to relieve and manage pain, but there are certain circumstances under which this type of therapy cannot be used, such as on patients with internal fittings ,such as pacemakers, with which the electrical current from the Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy may interfere.
